Biography

Kimberlin Bolton is a social entrepreneur, speaker,  and professional opera singer. Equally gifted as a businesswoman and an artist, the Bloomfield, Connecticut native holds a Master’s degree from the University of Michigan (’11/Vocal Performance) and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Spelman College (’09/Music). 

Upon graduating from the University of Michigan, Kimberlin traveled to France to perform with the Franco-American Vocal Academy Theater. Looking for a change of pace, she returned to the United States in August 2011 to accept the role of Personal Assistant to Grammy and Oscar-nominated artist Janelle Monáe. As Ms. Monáe’s assistant, she was ultimately responsible for managing the artist’s day-to-day schedule and all communication. Her boundless responsibilities afforded her the opportunity to develop a very extensive resume.

With  over a decade of experience in the arts and entertainment industry, Kimberlin recently transitioned from her role as Executive Director of re:imagine/ATL, an Atlanta-based nonprofit focused on connecting, training, and inspiring youth to build careers in the creative media industry. She first joined the organization in 2017 as Operations Director but in her promoted role in the last two years she transformed re:imagine/ATL into one of the most admired nonprofits, securing multi-year partnerships with giants like MailChimp, the Arthur Blank Foundation and WarnerMedia. Under her leadership, re:imagine/ATL launched the first federally registered paid apprenticeship program for the creative media industry in the state of Georgia.

In 2019, the Stand Together Foundation chose Kimberlin to participate in their Catalyst program, a nationally renowned leadership cohort for top nonprofit leaders across the country. Kimberlin’s outstanding performance resulted in a $30,000 donation to re:imagine/ATL, as well as an exclusive invitation to speak to a select group of Fortune 500 executives. Kimberlin’s integral work in diversifying the creative media pipeline was recognized by the highly respected Atlanta Business Chronicle Diversity and Inclusion Awards in 2021, as an Outstanding Voice. 

Today Kimberlin consults with Atlanta’s premiere media giants and is launching a luxury wellness center and spa that provides a “soft place to land” for Black women.

How Event Planners Can Prevent Burnout

How to give yourself permission to quit and still keep going in your journey? Sounds impossible, but that's exactly what Tez Steinberg did during two solo ocean rowing expeditions. Tez completed two world-first solo ocean rowing expeditions, spending 197 days alone at sea. He's the only person to solo row from California to Hawaii without rowing experience, and he's also the only one to row solo nonstop from Hawaii to Australia. When storms hit, when equipment failed, and when he desperately wanted to be rescued, he told himself he could quit—"just not today." His expeditions are basically metaphors for what we all go through. Managing a huge event, leading a team through crisis, or just surviving a brutal week—we all have moments where we want to quit. During his journey at sea, Tez hit multiple breaking points, including equipment failures he didn't think he could fix and exhaustion that felt insurmountable. But here's the thing about rowing across an ocean: there's no elegant exit strategy. So he developed a framework anyone can use—acknowledge the part that wants to quit, recognize it's normal, then ask if you can hold on one more day. Keynote speaker John O'Leary learned hard lessons about resilience early on in life. He survived a fire that burned 100% of his body when he was 9 years old and spent five months in the hospital, going through surgeries and amputations.
